What to Pack

We understand that staying in the cottages on the Lake is a tad unconventional and requires some extra packing foresight. So, if you are staying in a cottage that is NOT full service (which is about 95% of you) you should be sure to pack the following items: (1) pillows (2) sheets or sleeping bags (3) towels (4) bug spray (5) sun screen (6)camping chairs (7) flashlights (8) warm clothes! (think fleece, sweatshirts etc. it will get chilly at night!) (9) umbrellas or other rain appropriate gear (10) attire for the kickball and whiffle ball games if you are participating, and (11) anything else that you can think of that you'll need for days that are on average 70 degrees and nights that are on average 48 degrees.

For those that are asking - the attire for the wedding is semi-formal. No tuxes and gowns required, but suits or sports jackets & slacks for the men and dresses for the ladies etc. are recommended. Also, ladies, I've said it before, but you'll want to avoid stillettos. Think flats, wide/thick heels, or wedges etc.

In efforts to minimize paper consumption, extra reply cards and/or envelopes etc., we decided to use this website to have you tell us what day you plan to arrive, if you still need a place to stay, and if you want to participate in Whiffle ball/Kickball on Friday afternoon.

Four Months to Go ...

So somehow it's a mere four months to the wedding. We seem to think we have everything done and ready for the weekend, and then we "remember" about 50 other things that need to be done. Have no fear, we'll have it done in time for you to have a great weekend!

The cottages on the West side of the Lake are now completely booked. So that leaves the following options if you have not yet reserved:

(1) "Cabins" on the East End of the Park - they are a little more rustic than the cottages, in that the heat is from the fireplace and the showers are part of a bathhouse located near the cabins. But they do have running water, electricity, fridge, stove, and a bathroom. (2) The Taghkanic Motel - a local motel about 1 mile from the Park, has received good reviews from travelers. It's a local family owned motel that is not fancy by any stretch of the imagination, but is quaint, clean and rather convenient. (518) 851-9006, or reservations@taghkanicmotel.com; there are 10 rooms total and the cost is $85.00 plus tax per night.

(3) Local area B&Bs - if you are more interested in seeing the area surroundings and do not mind driving 20 minutes or so to and from the Park to your B&B, and are looking for someplace slightly fancier to stay - there are plenty of recommendations. Spring Update

So as you can tell from the date of the first post - we were, ahem, a tad behind sending out our save the dates. So all that information about "how to reserve your cottage" is irrelevant for most of you.

In addition, if you have not yet reserved a "cottage" at Lake Taghkanic, but are in fact planning on spending the night, please let us know ASAP. We are doing research into alternative locations - i.e. local motels and bed and breakfasts - for people to stay at.

Welcome to Meghan & Robert's Wedding Site

If you are reading this, than you received our save the dates, which means at least one step of this process was successfully carried out!

For those of you who will need a place to stay, there are cottages at the lake. However, as there are in fact a limited number of cottages and they are not uniform in the number of people they sleep or even in the types of beds (i.e. doubles versus twins etc.) you will each be receiving a SEPARATE email with the cottage number we have designated for you and the names of the other people you will be staying with.

Upon receipt of the email, ONE person from the group will have the responsibility of reserving the cottage for all of you through the New York State Park reservation system. We wish it could be slightly more simple, or we could just reserve them for all of you, but unfortunately, the State Park System does not operate that way. Please accept our thanks and deepest appreciation for taking care of this - especially so far in advance of the wedding.

If you are unsure of whether you will be able to attend the wedding (which we completely understand as the wedding is scheduled for months from now) please just let Rob or myself know, so that we can plan the lodgings accordingly.

We cannot begin to express our excitement and anticipation for the weekend. We are very much looking forward to your joining us!
